"Well," Bess started, before sniffing the air. She leaned towards Kelia, and took one more quick sniff. "Ye've been in me rum! I knew it were you!" She tapped her side thoughtfully. "Ye' know what this means Kelia."

Keila licked her lips, too late to hide the fact. "Aye," she replied without hesitation. "We'll hafta get s'more while we're here," she said, casting a wink toward Elizabeth.

"Out 'er yer pocket," Bess said sternly. "An'," she added, winking herself, "If ye're good, I may buy ye' both somethin' worth yer while." She jingled her change purse to make a point. "Well c'mon lassies," she said, starting the stroll to market. "Keep an eye out fer ripe fruit, an' good ale."

Keila followed with a smirk, scanning the fruit stands and vendor's stalls, stopping to examine some produce.

Elizabeth followed. She had drank wine and shot down imported whiskey once while her brother's weren't looking but she had never tasted rum before. She saw some ripe apples and a good looking melon."Bess, what about those?" she asked pointing them out.

Bess inspected the fruits with a keen eye. "That'll do," she said, taking out her change purse. She bought a few of the apples, and explained to the girls that fruits helped lower the risks of scurvey, and that they should probably but some limes as well.

Keila nodded. She knew the advantages of having citrus aboard. The odd tangy bite of fruit was infinitely preferrable to any sickness at sea. She noted a stall housing numerous casks down the market strip and licked her lips again consciously. There were other stalls at hand, though. Pungent spices filled her nostrils as she neared a spice-seller, wares in jars or bundles, stacked or hanging in every possible space on the herbalist's crude wooden counter. Across was a vendor selling various meats. Keila wondered if they were running low on salted or dried pork. She voiced her query and added as an afterthought, "An' how're we on wood fer th' cookfire?"

"We 'ave pleanty o' salted meats in the closet," this was Bess's unorthidox name for the meat store room. "An' I believe we could use some more wood." Spying her apprentice's position, she added, "But we are low on some spices, so pick waht ye' like. Also, if ye find any tea leaves do me afavour an buy them." She tossed the assistant cook a small changepurse. "An' be on the lookout fer good rum. I trust yer tastebuds." She returned to examining the fruits carefully.

A shopping list quickly growing in her mind, the pirate caught the changepurse and immediately turned to the spice stall. She sampled over a dozen concoctions with cautious sniffs, sometimes wrinkling her nose and once sneezing, until her nose was growing stuffy and a headache threatened. The spices covered a wide range from sweet to tangy to sour to spicy and everything in between. She selected a satisfying handful of small jars for purchase, and haggled with the vendor over the price of a satchel of tea. After making her purchases with alloted coins from the changepurse, Keila happily made her way toward the brewer's stall. "Best way t'clear yer head," she said to herself with a smile, rubbing her nose.

The pirate nodded appraisingly at the ones she pointed out before moving to her own personal favorites. "May I?" Keila inquired politely. The vendor nodded and handed each of them a small cup. Keila began her rum sampling with an enormous grin that only kept getting bigger.

Keila sipped repeatedly and smacked her lips appreciatively. Her eyes widened with suprise and she laughed as she watched Elizabeth down a sampling. "Ye've got the spirit!" It wasn't long before she had almost decided. She consulted Elizabeth. "What d'ye think, eh? This the good stuff?"

"Very good." she said."I love it.But I'll buy my own bottle. So I don't get on Bess's bad side." she said pulling a change purse out of her boot.

Keila laughed in amusement and gave her another wink. "Ye've got a good mind!" She purchased a bottle to replace the stores with coins from her own pouch, but not before taking another sample swig, despite a sour look from the vendor. "Now, I wonder," she said. "Should we find some wood to buy or scavenge the beach?" The pirate's hands were nearly full now as they spoke, bottle and jars tucked in her arms.
