Today boys and girls, we'll be learing about comunication with other people's characters. Doesn't that sound fun? A role play cannot just be one character out in seclusion. If one wishes to role play with others, one must go where the other characters are. You cannot roleplay with others if you go out on your own.
Sally waved good bye to her friends and walked home.
Now, the character has just gotten herself in a position where she is alone at her house. If you get yourself in this sort of perdicament, which is common in present day neighborhood or school rps the easiest thing to do is call or e-mail another character on the rp.
Sally threw her bag on the floor and emidietly rushed for the telephone. She dialed in Suzy's number, and waited for her to answer.
Now at this point most are tempted to control Suzy and write, "The phone was answered" or something similar. This is bad form. You cannot answer the phone for the other role player. They have to do it themself.
On the other hand, should another character go off by themself it is your job to try to interact with them. Suppose you were playing Suzy, and Sally went off to her home alone.
Suzy smacked her forehead. "I'm supposed to tutor sally today!" she exclaimed, waving to Joe and Jeff as she raced down to catch up with Sally.
This way no one is alone. It works so well!
Now that we have discovered a way to stay together lets work on interacting with other characters. When first speaking to others asking questions is always good. That way the character has to aknowledge your character. If you asked "how are you?" the other character would have to reply atleast with Bob grumbled something of an answer. or Bob completely ignored Sally. Both of these are good answers because you could do some much with them Take the first one for example,
Sally put a hand to her ear. "Ecuse me?" she said, "I didn't quite catch that."
The second one is even more fun.
Sally waved her hands infront of Bob's face. "Hello? Are you listening? Anyone in there?!" She thinned her eyes. "ARE YOU IGNORING ME!"
Either one would cause the other character to have to reply somehow.
Well it's time for nap time! See you kids later! And keep role playing!
