((I'm going to actually bring in my characters now, alright?))
A young woman of about 30 was wandering the country, as she had been for the past 10 years or so. She was mounted on a coal-black mare with a white star on her face. As the mare trotted along the Great Road South((I cna't remember exactly what it's called, and I don't have book with me to check right now... Someone correct me if needed, please! ^^)), her rider's calm dark blue eyes alertly scanned the landscape. The rider appeared to be relaxed, but in reality, she was like a dragon about to spring, without seeming at all tense. The mare's name was Midnight, and her rider? She was Ari Swift, the Shang Wyvern.

Ari frowned suddenly and said, Midnight. Stop for a moment, please. Her wild magic allowed her to speak with her horse without being heard by anyone else. Midnight stopped. Her nostrils flared as she sniffed the air and said, What is it, Ari? And what is that scent on the air? Ari shook her head. I don't know, Midnight. It's definitely an immortal, though. I can't sense what kind, though. It's not a Stormwing... She reached out with her magic, asking, Is someone out there? Who are you?
Firesong the dragon was flying south, cloaked in her magic to make her invisible. She stopped and hovered when she heard Ari's call. ---Who--or what--are you?--- she responded, puzzled. ---You feel of wild magic.--- She landed next to Midnight, shedding her power. Midnight, accustomed to odd things happening, simply shied a bit, startled. ---Are you the one who called?--- Firesong asked the human on the horse's back. Ari nodded, her eyes now pale blue-green in awe.

Ari bowed her head respectfully. "Would you walk with me, lady dragon?" she asked out loud. Firesong nodded, lowering herself to all fours, walking slowly. Ari urged Midnight into a trot in order to keep up with the forty-foot-long dragon. They traveled in silence for a while before Ari said, "What's your name, and what're you doing in the mortal realms?" Firesong responded, ---My name is Firesong, aunt to the dragonet Skysong. I have come here... to satisfy my curiosity about you mortals.--- Ari's eyes widened and she breathed, "You're related to Skysong? I'm Ari Swift, the Shang Wyvern. I'm descended from Veralidaine Sarrasri, the mortal who raised Skysong for a while. Since you're interested in the mortal realms, would you like to travel with me? I'm bound for Corus, the capital of this country, Tortall." Firesong nodded and cloaked herself in her magic again. Ari's sharp eyes could still detect a slight shimmering in the air, but no one else would have seen anything. As they traveled, Ari taught Firesong about the history of Tortall, speaking to her mentally to prevent other people from hearing. They were about 50 miles away from Corus.
((I think Ari wants to find out if she can become an instructor for the pages and squires, kind of like in Protector of the Small, where the Shang Horse and Wildcat are two of Kel's instructors, ya know? Please let me know if that's okay.))

Midnight pulled up on a bluff overlooking the capital city of Corus, and Ari reached out for Firesong with her magic. Firesong, will you please wait out here? I'll call you when you can join me, alright? When I call you, just head for the palace. Look for a courtyard you can land in. I'll be there waiting, okay? she said to the dragon, who reluctantly agreed. All right, then. Come on, Midnight! Midnight galloped down the hillside, heading for the city gates.
