Name: Saya Windwhisper Age:17 Species: Human, Tayledras, part Valdemaran Position: 2nd Year Unaffilate Gifts: Mindspeech with animals, ?
Physical Description: Despite growing up among the Tayledras, who are most notably recognized for tan skin, hair almost white from magical energy, and pale eyes, Saya has bright reddish hair (although it HAS lightened, particulary at the roots turning white), freckles, and solomn face. Rather short but slim build, with strong arms and an uncanny ability to remain silent. A brown and dark speckled owl is usually in close proximity, with a tendency to tease at Saya's hair.
Background: Saya's mother was a Valdemaran herald mage who was running routes when she encountered trouble. Fleeing on her Companion, Marla led her deep into the Tayledras forests. Normally the Tayledras didn't help foreigners, but they had a grudging respect for Valdemar. And Saya's mother was a particular beauty, catching the eye of one Tayledras scout. Against the wishes of the rest of the Tayledras clan, who thought it was below Strongseer to marry a non clan person, Saya's father, Strongseer, married Marla, and they had a daughter, Saya. Strongseer thought it best to raise Saya in the ways of the Tayledras, but agreed with his wife's insistence that when strong enough, she should be sent to recieve training at the Herald's collegium. And so it was that Saya Windwhisper- so named after her mother's favorite flower, and her ability to mindspeak animals of all kinds unknownst to others-was sent at the age of 17 to learn the ways of Valdemar.
Personality: Saya is rather aloof seeming, and quiet, after learning the ways of careful observation from the Tayledras. She appreciates anyone who has a fondness and respect for animals, even the lesser intelligent ones. She has a very deep bond with her bird, a speckled owl named Suur. She has a slow but brilliant smile. She misses the companionship of the Vales- the Hertasi and dyheli, for starters, but is intrigued and also fond of what she's found in Valdemar. She wonders about the future, and for all her ability as a Tayledras scout, found herself more at ease among the Valdemarans, as she looks more like them and wasn't looked down on.
Suur is a good natured, hungry-driven female bird of prey who loves to stalk almost everything, just for the sport of it. She's got a great ear, but a rather short memory-which isn't SUCH a failing, considering Saya can hear things through Suur's ears, if she chose.

Since Saya is not Chosen or Mage/Healer/Bardic Gifted that would place her in the Unaffiliated Collegium. So Position needs adjusted to 2nd Year Unaffilate. Oh and two notes: The coloring bleaching caused by node energy in Tayledras starts at the roots of the hair, the hair simply starts coming in as white. And Dyheli are notoriously painful to ride, especially bareback. They have a lot more prominent spine and hip bones that antelopes/deer, which are what they look the closest like. Other than that she looks fine

Okay, modified and set to go, I hope. I didn't know which end the white hair started at, and I didnt see the books mentioning it (though I didnt get to read them all yet).

I don't think it ever says 'this is how it happens' specifically but there is mention of the scouts having to re-dye every couple of months if they live in the Vale because of the white growing in or some such which to me indicates the roots. I think Dye also starts to fade off it rather quickly once it reaches the completely bleached stage. And it's not exactly that is just starts growing white, it's more like it begins to get paler and paler, most noticable at the roots are first. And once away from the influence the natural color reasserts itself unless they are a mage using node energy. Oh and now that she's left the Vale the white should stop and her natural red/brown reassert itself. And yes you may begin play with her

I think Vanyel a couple of times would say something like "After this, he would have more white roots"...

Yeah stuff like that is where I get the assumption, it's surprising how hard it is to find facts like that, even in the Companion it just doesn't say.

Guess they didn't think of stuff like that when they made the Companion

The "Companion" is a book that talks about Valdemar and stuff... I can't remember the full title but it's like "The Valdemar Companion" or something... It's nifty. Has all kinds of info in it.

Er... just a question. Doesn't the palace in Valdemar have its own power node and heartstone? It does in the Last Herald Mage books.

Yes, the Heartstone was created by Vanyel but it went inactive basically after he died and he reactivated it with the energy he diverted from the Heartstone that was being moved in the Winds books. It is active in our timeline though ALL access, including leylines to it, are shielded and 'coded' to only a few Adepts and Masters to avoid accidental tapping or intentional misuse.
