Personality: Quiet, she says little so when she speaks most people listen. Loyal to a fault. A realist.
Background: Born to a minor noble in Rethwellan she was Chosen by Karis at the age of 16, she graduated the Collegia at the age of 21.

Companion name/gender/personality- Karis, Grove-Born Stallion, Friendly but a commanding presence. He has been around for 3 Monarch's Owns now and has the experience to command respect.

Physical Description: Elena is mostly grey haired now but she's still a spry woman, most of the time. She has a very regal bearing after years of 'practice' and as such commands your attention by simply walking into the room.
Personality: Elena is a very fair minded and logical person, hidden behind a somewhat flighty and fun loving exterior. Deep down though she craves order and so she tries to always make sure that's what she provides.
Background: Descendant of the last 'Great' Queen Selenay Elena is proud of her heritage. She was an only child herself and was thankfully Chosen at the tender age of 11. She grew up knowing she would have to make a marriage of state and was only thankful she had more than one choice. As it turns out Karden, a prince of Karse, was the perfect match for her. He keeps her more fantastical ideas held down to earth with his own droll sense of humor and deep passion for Valdemar's welfare and growth.

Physical Description: His deep black hair has faired the years better than his wifes but is now liberally splashed with greys. His once rough chiseled features are softer from age and a decrease of weapons training that was keeping him so lean.
Personality: Duty-bound, but with a droll sense of humor and wit. He keeps his wife from appearing too flighty most of the time.
Background: With a very strong sense of duty and a love of the Earth Karden was determined to marry whomever his country need him to. As it turned out he adores his wife and was Chosen almost immediately upon arriving at the Palace in Haven.


Companion name/gender/personality- Darik, stallion, overly friendly for a stallion Darik had a habit of embarrassing Karden early on. Now Karden takes it all in stride.

Physical Description: Tall and lanky with Dark brown hair and green eyes. About 6'4"
Personality: Jakkar is quiet to most people but is endlessly talkative to his friends. He often gives the impression of an assasian because he surveys everything in an instant. He is good at figuring and is very good with daggers and throwing weapons and could hold his own for a bit with a sword.
Background: Raised as a wealty merchants second son Jakkar was pampered. He didn't like the attention. He often was found slinking in the shadows hiding from people trying to pamper him. He was always found with his friends. Once there was an attempted assasination on him and his family. This was when he was Chosen. Fahrns drove off the assassin with a well-placed smash in his stomach. Jakkar didn't leave Fahrns' side for three days afterwards and was then enrolled into the acadamy.

Companion name/gender/personality- Fahns-Female- Very witty, likes to correct her Chosen a lot, teases Jakkar about women and is slow to apologize almost never admitting she was wrong.

Physical description: typical Shin-a-in. straight bluish-black hair, falls to waist when free, usually restrained in a loose braid down her back with smaller braids framing her face. Golden-brown skin and eyes that are the deepest shade of amber. Athletic with lightning quick reflexes. Of necessity in great physical shape.

Personality: friendly but wary of strangers until they prove themselves. Tends to bond very strongly when she does bond with someone. Intensely loyal. Hot tempered with a relatively short fuse but the intensity of her reaction means it burns itself out quickly under ordinary circumstances. She is she’chorne and knows it.

Background: typical Shin-a-in upbringing. Nothing unusual happened to her until her Gift of Mindspeech opened up at 14. She thought she was going mad, hearing all those voices, and went to her clan Shaman for help. Was very relieved to find out she was perfectly sane and that all it was was her very strong Gift of Mindspeech opening up. She has since been receiving training in it from the Shaman. She is among the best of the clans hunters and usually is sent out with scouting groups so in case there is trouble that they can’t handle she can call back to the Clan for help. Discovered early on that she was she’chorne, parents were mildly disappointed as she is their only daughter so far but soon reconciled themselves to that fact. She was Chosen by Varrin while returning from a scouting mission and is currently on her way to Haven and her new life.

Physical Description: While still fit, as all Heralds must be, Marek is slowing down and he knows it. As he ages he has become dependant on glasses as well to read his beloved Histories. Add in a round face with kind brown eyes framed by neatly trimmed brown hair and a beard and you have a nice looking man.
Personality: Marek is infinitely tolerant with children and animals a quality that made him the best choice to replace the retiring Dean of the Collegia recently. However his first love will always be the Histories and he would love to go back to that full time when a more permanent Dean can be found.
Background: Marek has perfect recall which makes him the perfect Herald Historian. He was Chosen at the slightly older than average age of 15 and graduated only 4 years later. Since leaving active duty on Circuit he has served lovingly as Historian and now acts as Dean as well.

Physical description: At a slight 5'1", with straight, shoulder-length brown hair and serious brown eyes, Senna doesn't attract much attention.

Personality: Raised on a farm with 4 brothers and 5 sisters near the border of Valdemar, she can hold her own with sharp elbows and well-aimed knees and can curse with the best humor ever.

Background: She met her companion Kytel at a Harvest fair, and, quite astonished to hear a voice in her head, had the embarassing experience of fainting. Far more at ease with the tangible and seen, mindspeech with her companion did not come easily to her at first, though she's more comfortable with it now. With a knack for identifying things, when she's not busy with classes or other responsibilities, she's in the kitchen mixing up something tasty.

Companion: Kytel is a somewhat young one among the companions, utterly devoted to Senna, and with a misplaced adventurous streak that Senna doesn't usually share. She is very protective of her chosen, though.

OK folks here's a few NPC students to fill in the ranks a bit. Anyone may move them as long as you don't go getting all contraditory on each other with thier personalities etc.
Melinda feel free to edit in some more if you like. Now that we both have all out 'power' proper Just use the format below. I woulnd't mind having 2-3 NPC's of each collegia.

All of these are adoptable, and everything but the names and collegia are adjustable should anyone choose to adopt them. One other note, none of these are new students all are at least 2nd years.

Migrating in a character of my own from another group.

Name: Jentaria
Age: 21
Species: Human
Position/Rank: Mage Trainee - Journeywoman

Physical Description: Jen is tall, standing 6'2 and very thin due to a very active metabolism. She has medium length very curly black hair and a deep bronze skin tone. She eyes are slightly tipped up at the very corner and are a deep blue that borders on black. She always dresses in very bright colors or only black.

Personality: Her temper is as mercurial as the way she dresses, though her color choice of the day is often reflective of her mood. She is very self-aware, she always sees how any given situation can benefit her but that rarely has much bearing on the way she reacts to a situation. She will put herself before many except the helpless and yet she is very honorable and even selfless in as odd kind of way.

Short Life Story: Jentaria has always lived on the move. Daughter to a wealthy trader she's rarely stayed at home since her mother's death when she was three. Consequently she has seen much of the world from Lake Evendim to Kata'shin'a'in and all between but Valdemar is nominally their home. Tutored by many types of people through many countries she speaks and reads five languages fluently and knows the trade laws of every country they have ever had dealings with.

Sometimes Jen hears voices in her sleep, and sometimes seen other places and people she didn't know, but she's always believed it to be just a dream. Jen has a Natural shield to mind magic that lowers when she sleeps and has not encountered a true mage since she was 10. Odd things have happened in her life but her father has always found some explanation for the 'magic' seeming things fearing to lose his beloved daughter if she ever learned she had Mage powers just like her mother.

Unfortunately one day her ideal existence fell apart. In her sleep she dreamed of bandits planning an attack and shortly after dawn their wagon caravan was attacked by those bandits. Seeing the people she loved attacked and injured something within Jen snapped. She unknowingly began using her Mage Gift to fend off the bandits and when it seemed she had no more to give and she had not been effective enough she unintentionally tapped a small leyline.
Unable to control or stop the power coursing through her Jen killed the bandits and was destroying a nearby forest with levin bolts, in an attempt to not turn the unstoppable power on her freinds and father, when an Adept Herald-Mage arrived. The Adept cut Jentaria off from the leyline and then began putting out the fires started by the levin bolts while the trainee on Internship with the Adept tended to the injured caravan members.

Jen was taken to the Healer's Hall in nearby Haven to recuperate and then to be enrolled in the Mage's Collegium, her father had finally had to give her up after all, and not in a way he would have preferred. As it turned out Jentaria's dream had actually been her Dreamspeech Gift coming active and showing her the dream of one of the bandits. And her Mage Gift was discovered to be of a Master level strength.

Name: Yarek Hedlann
Age: 37, Male

Position/Rank: Herald, Weaponmaster

Companion: a white stallion called Waryn, dry-humored

Physical Description: Dark hair, tall, broad shoulders. Brown eyes that sometimes look green and a thin smile. A jagged scar on his back is a momento of his first major fight and coming into his own.

Personality: Demanding and stern, he capitalizes on anything he can use in self defense of Valdemar. Sarcasm is his second language.

Background:

Born in the heart of Haven to the rich merchant family Hedlann, he was discontented with the lifestyle and schooling. At the early age of 14, he ran away. Joining a trading caravan, he signed on first as a low hired help- packing, moving, fetching water, and leading the animals. In time, he convinced the caravan guard to teach him minor fighting skills, beginning with a knife and stave. As his skills progressed, he began to train himself. And when an attack from Karse bandits brought his skills to the forefront as he helped successfully defend the caravan against uneven odds but also brought him close to realizing death, he decided to return to Valdemar to see his parents.

Much changed now-older, almost 17 years old now, with broader shoulders, a confident swagger, and a scar on his back from the last fight, he returned home to find that his family was gone- his mother had died of a heart attack, and his father had disappeared, after selling everything, leaving nothing behind. Facing an empty house and no parents, the teenage Yarek went out into the field behind his abandoned home and grieved. Not alone, however, as he soon found in the midst of his loss a reason to go on when a white horse approached him and whose beautiful voice spoke in his mind, claiming the rest of his life-despite Yarek being past the usual choosing age. They spent four days there, coming to terms with the past he had lost, and then they left together.

Following that Companion, he went on to train at the Herald's Collegium, studying fiercely. Language came easily to him, as his caravan travels had introduced him to many people and languages. Fighting, however, was his passion. He devoted himself to learning each and every weapon, even the exotic weapons.

His skills, as they surfaced, were mild mind speech, and mild far sighting. Able to see things in the distance, he knew was going on around him, sharpened by a keen sense of survival. Able to see things far away, he developed a watch-sense for trouble around him. After becoming a full herald, he went on to start an internship, and following the completion of the internship, began working with the companies of the Guard on border patrol and other work, at the age of 23. His companion, a proud stallion named Waryn, helped lead him to a political scheme to undermine Valdemar treaties with bordering countries. Between him, Waryn, and some of the best and smartest of Valdemar, the plot was uncovered and innocent lives spared.

At the age of 26 and well established for his grasp of weaponry, Herald Yarek left the guard, returned to Haven, and accepted a position of Assistant Weaponmaster under the watchful eyes of the current aging Weaponmaster. A little over 4 years later, the Weaponmaster stepped down to retire, and Herald Yarek stepped forward into the new position of Weaponmaster.

Tough to a fault, demanding, and quite often insensitive, Yarek Hedlann has been the Haven's weaponmaster for nearly 8 years now. Waryn is a large, dry-humored companion who shares his Chosen's drive and motivation.

Description: Tall, dark, and gangly. Friendly, overly-romantic, and talkative. Light gray eyes.
Gifts: Mindspeech, minor. Bardic talent, creativity, light.


Background: Raised in a noble household, he grew up envying the court musicians more than anything else. With an aversion to fighting, he found comfort in learning to write ballads, composing songs, and singing to whatever audience he could find. Thankfully, his parents supported his dream, giving him the best tutors. Not so long after, he was accepted at Haven to the Bardic wing of the Collegium. Very pleased to be training in the bardic way, Daren HATES the weapons training, but excells at the composing and performing aspects. Popular among ladies for his flirtations if not his looks, he's not exactly ugly, but not handsome, either. His appearance is more along the lines of likeable and endearing, like an awkward puppy. Well versed in the ways of the collegium, Daren is always looking for new students to impress with his musical voice and romantic lyrics.
