SETTING: Haven, Capital city of Valdemar. Home to the Monarch's Palace and the Collegia of Valdemar. Herald's Collegium, Healer's Hall and Collegium, Bardic Collegium, the Unaffiliated Collegium and the Mages Collegium.
Haven is a city that has expanded many times, the newest set of walls (only 50 years old) encompass the entire city, for now. Several more sets of walls can be seen from the vantage point of the low hills to the south of Haven. Inside the innermost walls sets the palace, boasting old and 'new' sections, and Collegia as well as a large green expanse of Field and forest, Companion's Field.
The second innermost set of walls houses the many nobles and lesser nobles mansions. The next ring out is the well to do merchants and artisans, the next ring out is the most costly of merchant and artisan stores and workshops. And so on down the line to the outermost ring which holds the lowest of classes and the slums of Haven.
Just Northeast of Haven are the Home Farms, a series of farms that provide all the food and livestock for the palace and Collegia. As well as trained mounts for the Guard and pack animals for the Heralds, Guard or a Royal retinue.
Haven has no direct way to the palace from the outer layers of the city. The streets are defensively designed and it takes much winding back and forth, and well over a candlemark in traffic, to reach the palace walls from any of the main gates of Haven.
TIME: 200 years after the reign of Queen Selenay. It is just barely spring and the new year has begun to unfold.

Starshine k'Valdemar stepped through the Gate into the Companions Field and watched it close before looking around. A few of the white Companions glanced her way, then went back to their conversations or whatever else they were doing.
Tyr, pearched on her shoulder, looked around, wide-eyed as always, blinking occasionally. :Small trees,: the bird commented, and Starshine smiled.
:All trees outside the Pelagirs are small, love,: she commented, lifting her packs and walking in the direction of the palace. Somebody had been told she'd be coming--or so she'd been assured--she just hoped that they were expecting her today.

(OOC Ah there is no Gate 'in' Companions Field Melinda So I'll assume this is the one 'closest' to the Field.))
IC: The Monarch's Own Myrantianorestial was indeed expecting the new Tayledras Ambassador. She stood next to Karis just up the roadway from the Palace Gate the Ambassador had come in. As the woman and her bondbird drew near Myr smiled warmly.
"Greeting Ambassador. I am Myr, the Monarch's Own and this is my Companion Karis. We've been expecting you." She said in her soft manner. "I can escort you to your quarters to freshen up before you are presented to the King and Queen, if you like. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me." Myr added with another smile.

OOC: Well, I meant a magical gate, but whatever works. ;D Sorry for the confusion.
IC: "I am Starshine k'Valdemar, and this is my bondbird, Tyr," the Tayledras replied with a smile for the Herald and her Companion. "And I would like very much to go to my rooms first." She wished to change into another set of mage robes, as well as drop off her things.

(OOC: Check the ooc board please Melinda)
IC: Myr smiled. "Greetings Tyr." Then she turned. "This way please. You're rooms are in the Old Palace, along with most of the other ambassadors. We've given you one of the Third floor suites, for an illusion of height, and with two large windows to offer easy access for Tyr."
Karis nodded to the Ambassador as he split off from them. "That huge green space over there is the Companions Field. They're already said you may visit as you like, they know how the Tayledras like their trees. And there are even a few deep in the center that are more like you're used to. They were once altered by the Adept Firesong k'Treva when he had a mini Vale here. They're not Vale sized, but they are larger than our standard trees." Myr added as she led the way into the Palace via the main central double doors.

"Thank you," she said gratefully. So, Firesong had a mini Vale when he was here... From what she knew of the legendary Adept, that seemed like something he would do. As they entered the palace, she looked around approvingly. A lovely building, she decided, though very different from what she was used to. She would have to adjust a little to living closer to the ground!

[glow=red,2,300]Entering Haven[/glow]
Nine days later saw Malloriel cresting a hill and getting her first look at the city of Haven. As Varrin had predicted she'd adjusted to the feel of the saddle and now stood up in the stirrups to get a better look at the place.
Whistling, ::Wow, sure is big.::
Shuddering slightly and sitting back down, ::How can people stand living all packed together like that with hardly any room to move!?::
Tossing his head and starting down to hill towards the city, ::They really don't see it that way Chosen. Most of them have never known anything but the city.::
Hm, ::Maybe they'll let me set up a tent somewhere. I'm not sure how much of being penned in behind walls I can take.::
Snorting, ::They might at that. Never hurt to ask.::
Arriving at the city gate the guard took one look at them and waved them in with a smile. Worming their way through the city Malloriel got a much closer look than she wanted of what the inside of the city looked like. She was sooo relieved when they left the heavily packed roads for wider and less crownded streets.
They rode up to the Palace gates and Varrin stopped by the guard house as the guard came out to see who was there.
Grinning broadly, "Welcome to Haven newly Chosen." Handing her a board and writing implement, "If you'll just sign-in here please."
Feeling more than a little awkward Malloriel signed her name and the name of her Companion in the space provided and handed it back to the guard.
He put his intials, the date, and time next to her entry and set it inside the guardhouse. Moving over he opened the gate and waved them in. "Head straight up the hill and too you left. Someone will come meet you there and get you set up."
Smiling politely,"Thank you."
Varrin nodded to the guard as well and trotted up the hill. Entering somekind of courtyard Malloriel glanced around to see if anyone was there yet.

(Malloriel and Nora)
Housekeeper Herald Nora was running a teensy bit late. Hurrying up she smiled. "Sorry for the delay my dear." She said as she stopped. "Congratulations on Choosing Varrin. Did you have to go all the way to the Plains for her?" She asked the stallion with a knowing smile. She spoke in the Common tongue since the Companion gossip had not given if the new trainee was able to speak Valdemaran.

(Myr and Starshine)
Myr led the Ambassador through the hallways of the palace pointing out relevant statues and other landmarks by which Starshine could navigate herself. "That hall leads to the Main Audience chamber." She continued as they passed a hall half again as wide as the already wide halls they had been traversing. "Almost all the halls here luckily are passable to Gyphons, they being our largest visitors. But the Ambassador pair here now don't tend to like staying inside. They're quarters are actually below yours, on the first floor." She said with a smile.
Shortly enough they arrived at the desired wing, passing one guard at the entrance door. "There are only two doors into this section, the one we just came through and the one at the far end, and there are only three stairwells that lead to the upper levels of this section. It allows for easy regulation of who has access to the Ambassadors. Your safety is of priority with us of course. If you would like to request a guard stationed at your door at anytime to guarantee no unwanted visitors you have only to ask. There are guards in each of the hallway ends for general purposes. Any ruckus they haven't been told to expect they'll investigate." Myr explained.
"So if you want to plan a wild party just let them know." Myr added with a smile and an attempt at humor as she headed up the stairs nearest them.

(Myr and Starshine)
Starshine nodded, smiling. She doubted she'd have any "wild parties," but it was good information to know. She also didn't expect to need a guard. She could feel the Heartstone in the palace, as well as large ley lines leading into it. She wasn't an adept, but she could use the ley lines. She stepped inside, and Tyr lept off her shoulder, flitting to a perch that had obviously been put there for him. "Thank you, Myr," she said. "Would you like to come in and wait for me to change?" She knew that Valdemarans were a bit more body shy than the Tayledras--actually, *everybody* was more body shy than the Tayledras! So, she slipped into the bedroom and shut the door behind her before she began to change.
She put on some of her most elaborate and colorful mage robes, then fixed her hair, braiding in more beads and feathers. When she came out, she was dressed in the type of Tayledras clothing that made other people stare. Tyr took off of the perch and flew back to her, and she held out an arm for him, then transferred him to her shoulder. "I'm ready now," she told Myr with a smile.

[glow=red,2,300](Malloriel and Nora)[/glow]
Malloriel didn't have to wait long before an older woman hurried up to her. Varrin nodded emphatically when asked if he'd had to go all the way to the Plains for her.
Smiling politely she echoed his answer, also using the Common tongue as she didn't speak Valdemaran, "Yes he did indeed have to go to the Plains to find me." She was rather relieved that the other woman spoke the Common tongue but knew that she'd better learn to speak Valdemaran soon if she was going to be able to communicate with others since it stood to reason that not everyone here spoke Common.
Feeling a trifle self-conscious she brushed some stray hair out of her face, "So what now?"

(Myr and Starshine)
Myr had wandered over to the window as she waited and turning back smiled politely once more. "Wonderful. I know the monarchs are anxious to greet you." She said. "This way please." And she led the way back downstairs and out of the doors they'd come in. A few turns later and they were back to the main audience hall. A nod to the Guards on duty and one of the doors was opened smoothly, though it was clearly heavy.
As they entered the major-domo next to the door nodded to Myr and then announced their arrival with full titles for Starshine. Smiling ruefully Myr motioned Starshine to walk with her to the dais in the center back of the room.

(Malloriel and Nora)
Nora smiled her best reassuring smile. "Now we'll take Varrin to the Companions stables to put away his tack and for grooming. The unpartnered Companions grooms will take care of him today but after this all his care and upkeep will be up to you. Then we go and get you fitted for uniforms and sized for boots and other shoes, though I can see yours are in fine enough condition for now we like to have at least one spare pair handy. Then we'll set you up with a chore schedule and get you a room. After that you'll see the Dean for testing and a class schedule." She said talking as she walked farther up the path towards the stables next to the large green expanse that was the front part of Companions Field.

(Myr and Starshine)
Starshine was surprised to hear her name followed by so many titles... She didn't think she'd even heard some of them before! She smiled and entered the room, following Myr. Approaching the throne and the King and Queen, she bowed her head respectfully (so as to not unbalance Tyr) and, looking up again, into their eyes, said. "It is a pleasure to be here in Haven as Ambassador," she told them, smiling.
