The dawn roosters crowed loudly accross the entire of England. In the rough cobbled roads of Oxford, children were already frantically running around playing different games, several being pursued by their mothers. It was the beginning of winter and small flakes of snow were falling casually on the houses of the large town. In the centre of Oxford was a large field. And in the field were hundreds of wagons, stalls and other market idols. "Come on!" merchants cried out at the huge jam of wagons on the stone roads. "Speed up. Tha' Mark't will be open'n soon and I gotta get thi' products there!" It was the Winter market in Oxford and, as typical of any type of market, the streets and the field in the centre were crammed full of people selling, buying and exchanging goods. Alongside the field was a large canal and several barges were roped into the pier and the Gyptian traders unloading their stocks hastily. As the sun rose ever higher, the atmosphere on the cobbled roads began to calm down and the children, now bored with the market, began to war on one another in the mud fens, although several still wandered idly through the field.

Edwin walked through the bustling of the market. By now most of the hyperactive children had ran off to play in the mud and fight each other. But he had not left. He did not think this strange though, there was plenty to do here. Around his neck was a crystal white fox, it's tail dangling off his shoulder and its claws gripping Edwin's form for stability. "Why are we still here Edwin?" the arctic fox groaned. Edwin Phaedia smiled and ruffled the fox's head affectionetly. "Why do you ask, Naia, if you already know the answer?" the brown haired boy said, grinning. "Last year i nearly won that raffle draw...I could have won a prize" The fox morphed forms quickly and turned into a sparrow, perching on his shoulder and watching the crowd suspiciously. "Yes but we can't afford to throw money around Edwin" Naia continued to pester. "We're hard pushed as it is" Edwin frowned slightly. "You mean I am hard pushed. You don't need to eat nor drink" The sparrow fell into silence. Edwin could hear Naia's response through his mind: Doesn't mean I can't...I rather enjoy eating Laughing, Edwin continued deeper into town. The Sparrow flew up a bit just to look further accross the field which was strewn with people, carts and vendors. The Boy and his Dæmon continued through the bustling crowds idly.

Ariel walked throught the market, a bulging sack in her arms. Potatoes and sausages along with other food items could be seen peeking from the top. Ebet walked close beside her as a small reddish brown wolf. The girl had been saving up what money she could, unknown to her hard-working father. She intended to suprise him with these groceries, over a weeks-worth he would not have to spend on by himself. She could not really see where she was walking, but Ebet led her through the market with gentle nudges, all the while watching out for theives. The last thing they wanted was for the precious parcel to be stolen. The pair grew nervous as the when jostled by the crowds. Ebet leapt as a black cat to Ariel's capped head, fully occupied trying to navigate her through, but neither saw the boy until it was too late. "Look out!" Ebet leapt down with a yowl. Ariel and her bag of groceries collided clumsily into the side of a brown-haired figure. The bag spilled as the girl lost her balance and landed unceremoniously on her rump. Potatoes rolled in various directions as the bag fell untended.

Edwin hit the ground and the sparrow took off from his shoulder, before turning into a eagle and glaring at the girl and her Dæmon. Scratching his head unceromoniously, he looked accross him to see a girl on the ground infront of him clutching a half empty bag. Across the floor some groceries lay. Not wanting to be rude, he picked up the few potatoes near him and handed them back to the girl slowly. "Sorry about that...Must have not seen what i was going" Edwin said, looking to the ground. His cheeks flushed red with embarassment as the people around them looked down at them as they passed, none offering help. Naia hit the ground in her eagle form and reverted to her Favorite Arctic fox shape. Cocking her head at the cat dæmon, she stated tonelessly: "Don't keep all of your eggs in one basket" Edwin scowled at his Dæmon. "Theres no need to be rude Naia" the brown haired boy whispered. "I'm just voicing your thoughts" Naia hissed back. "Besides, it wasn't rudeness...just advice" She huffed and sat down on the ground impatiently. Edwin smiled at the bewildered girl and continued to find some of the nearby groceries and handing them to her. "Sorry about Naia...She's in a mood"

Ebet morphed into a dog (Jack Russel Terrier) shape and whined, ears down, tail between his legs. "I'm sorry," he voiced, to Ariel as much as the other two. Ariel was blushing scarlet and scrabbling to get her belongings back in order. The girl barely looked up, embarrassed. "So sorry! Clumsy..." she said breathlessly. "Thank you.... She's right." She looked up to see the boy smiling and blushed deeper, pulling her cap down over her reddened ears.

Edwin couldn't resist chuckling. He held out his hand and with politeness he'd never been taught, he said "Nice to meet you miss. My name is Edwin"

On her knees with her goods gathered around her, Ariel looked up again and looked at the hand uncertainly for a second before shaking it. Ebet moved to sit like an obedient hound by her side. "Ariel. And this is Ebet." The daemon nodded politely. "Nice to meet you," they chorused.

Chucking, Edwin stood up and moved to pull Ariel up to her feet also. Naia had climbed up onto the boy's shoulders and eyed the pair suspiciously. After a while she scratched her head and curled around Edwin's neck. "Where are you from?" Edwin said after a while.

Brushing off her clothes Ariel gathered her crumpled bag and set it at her feet next to Ebet, who promptly returned to his cat-shape, and her head. Ariel looked up annoyingly. She knew he was watching Naia with those golden eyes. She straightened her cap as well as she could with him latched to it. "Oh, I live just outside town," she said. "And what about you?"

Edwin shifted uncomfortably. "I wander around here but dun' reside..." he said flatly, not wanting to say too much about him being, most likely, one of the poorest people in Oxford.

A faint smile finally broke onto the girl's face. She was getting over her embarrasment and beginning to warm up to this stranger. "What do you do when you wander?" she asked curiously. She had never been far from the city and wondered if he was some sort of traveller.

Smiling, still red, he replied slowly: "Here and there," he laughed, "Mainly here since i dont know where to get there". Naia glared at Edwin with cold hostility. How can you do that and instantly warm up to people his Dæmons young female voice rippled through his mind. Sometimes i wonder if we are actually bonded correctly Edwin shot back at her, laughing. Naia fell silent and went into a mood. Curling her tail around his shoulder she licked his ear affectionetly then vanished into thin air. Out of his jean pocket poked a small white mouse, shivvering in the cold.

Ebet became a brown squirrel on Ariel's shoulder. He could be a theif, her Dæmon warned her. He's had plenty chance to take from me already, she reasoned back to her companion. The Dæmon was about to remind his human of past experiences with street urchins, but he refrained, trusting she knew what she was doing. He laughs a lot. I like that, he intoned mentally instead. Ariel smiled. I like to hear you laugh, too, you know. Maybe you could make a new friend. With that the squirrel hopped to the ground and resumed his reddish wolf shape, posting himself in a sitting position adjacent to the precious cargo they had been transporting earlier. The sight of it reminded Ariel. "Oh! All that and I nearly forgot! I was bringing this home!" She hefted the bag up and it was clear once again the burden was too large for her to see over. Ebet whined. "Not again..."

Edwin looked unsure as he saw the girl heft up the huge bag of groceries. It looked relativly heavy for someone of her frame so he tapped her arm and waited for her to look at him before saying: "You need some help? That looks like a' bit of a burd'n"
